The Litton String Quartet
In 2010 the four musicians of the Litton Quartet joined forces to become the resident quartet at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. This was accomplished with the help of a grant from the Robin Litton Fund. IUP string faculty members Stanley Chepaitis, violinist, and Linda Jennings, cellist, invited violinist Swana Chepaitis, and violist Raul Faure to join them in presenting a yearly series of concerts in the University's Gorell Hall. Over the four years of its existence, the quartet has premiered new works by composers Stanley Chepaitis, Raymond Helble, Jack Stamp, Mike Barnett, and David Martynuik. They have joined more experimental collaborations with jazz artists John Stowell and Nathan Santos. They have also presented a broad selection of the incredible literature for quartet, including works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Dvorak, Smetana, Prokofiev, and Shostakovitch. You can see some of these performances on this page.
In May of 2014, the Litton Quartet performed the premier of a new ballet "The Ugly Duckling" composed by Stanley Chepaitis, choreographed by Joan Van Dyke, and danced by Van Dyke and Company. The quartet's upcoming concert will feature a new work for quartet with Racqel Winnica, alto, based on the "Four Quartets" of T.S. Elliot.
