"Chepaitis is a national treasure who has yet to be recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, because a category encompassing the gonzo, musically omniverous brilliance, and beatific, introspective sensitivity of the man has yet to be invented." -Kitty Montgomery

The act is an ancient skill, practiced all over the world and an indispensible part of any circus. Matisse could very well have been acquainted with Fred McLone, “Chavalier Cliquot,” one of the best known sword swallowers of his time. Its early practice in southern India 2000 BC was used as a demonstration of divine union and power and is the preferred inspiration for the notes and tones that are heard.
